This collection spans the time between 1909 to 1947, roughly from World War I to World War II. This was a time of incredible change both in medicine and life in general. The doctor in 1909 made house visits by horse and buggy. By 1947 the automobile was well established as well as prominent hospitals.
A variety of topics are presented within this collection. Evolutionary medical care and procedures are noteworthy throughout the Minutes. Debates concerning chiropractors, naturopaths, and osteopaths are addressed throughout the Correspondences as well as the Minutes. Bureaucracy accompanied technology as medical societies and regulations emerged to guide physicians. New legislation was introduced and physicians debated the repercussions within the Correspondence and presented concerns in the Minutes. Also finances and medical care costs are recorded throughout the files.
Some sub-topics of local concern are addressed as well. The interaction between church and medicine is unmistakable. A letter is included which is signed by the First Presidency of the Latter-day Saints concerning missionaries. Local fund raising efforts to help the war emerged and the Association purchased a War Savings Bond which is included within the collection.
The collection is organized into six boxes. The first two boxes contain correspondence. Correspondence between the Cache Valley Medical Society (later changed to Association) and the Utah State Medical Association are separated and the individual topics can be found throughout them. They are organized by date to aid the researcher. Box 3 contains bank statements, financial statements, and receipts. Box 4 contains the Minutes of the Society's meetings and miscellaneous files. Box 5 is a series of oversized documents. Box 6 contains correspondence envelopes and numerous receipt books.
